October 29, 2018

Day:

Monday

Time:

9:30 AM County bus leaves Northdale Park for a ghost tour of Tampa Theatre (WHAT??)
(estimated return 3:00 PM (barring unforeseen events))

Event:

Ghost Tour of Renovated Tampa Theatre

Cost:

$ 14  (Click <HERE> for payment information)

Details:

This event will get you ready for Halloween!

We know that Tampa Theatre is considered beautiful, but do you also know that it's considered the most haunted building in Tampa? They actually have a "paranormal investigative team of record," and even without Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray, Genesis Paranormal Services has investigated possible ghost activity in the building several times during the past four years. Their conclusion: "Countless spirited attendees." And we will get to meet (maybe really meet) a few of those residents during this tour.

Climbing one flight of stairs is a must for this event, because there's no elevator and you wouldn't want to miss hearing about the ghostly experiences that took place in the balcony. There won't be an organist, so we won't hear scary music. But you will hear stories about six of the resident ghosts who have provided humans with personal visions and/or feelings of their presence. You may even experience one of your own, but have no fear - all of our resident ghosts have been friendly - so far.
Dutch lunch at the Heights Market will be another adventure after our ghost tour. We'll have a chance to discuss "believe/don't believe" and to try a different restaurant in their variety of food vendors. Limited to 56, so early payment is a good idea.

Payment covers tour & your spot on the bus!

(estimated return 3:30 PM)

Event:

Tour Solomon's Castle, Ona, Florida

Cost:

$ 21  (Click <HERE> for payment information)

Details:

True or False Quiz: Solomon built his castle in Florida. (No, not THAT Solomon!) If you answered True, then you've heard of Howard Solomon - architect-artist-preservationist-dreamer - who did build his own version of a castle in Ona, Florida. And it's complete with stained glass windows, castle walls and a moat! For years, Howard shared his castle by using funny stories to tell visitors how he was inspired to build, and how he accumulated or created the relics and antiques that became part of his estate. Although Howard died last year, family members and friends continue sharing his funny stories with the multitude of visitors who find their way to his legacy. We'll have two guided tours, one of the "castle" itself, and the second will show us some of the items he created and/or accumulated during his final 10 years, including his antique cars.

Boat in the Moat is another creation of Howard Solomon. The building serves as their restaurant, and it's become popular for healthy, home-cooked meals. That's where we will enjoy a Dutch treat lunch. There's also a really interesting gift shop but they only accept cash or personal checks both in the gift shop and in the Boat in the Moat.

Fair warning: bus load limit is 42, so sign up early!

9:00 AM Martz bus departs Northdale Park for Kissimmee, Florida
(estimated return 3:00 PM)

Event:

ICE Event at Gaylord Palms

Cost:

$ 43 (Click <HERE> for payment information)

Details:

The 2018 theme for ICE is "A Christmas Story." (Remember Red Rider rifle or Leg lamp?)
So you thought you'd never EVER again need your gloves, ski caps, sweat shirts/pants and thermal underwear when you moved to Florida? Well, not until now, 'cause here's your chance to wear them for a day in Kissimmee, Florida. You'll definitely need all of them in the ICE display at Gaylord Palms. The temperature there is kept at 9 degrees so holiday figures can be chiseled from huge blocks of ice - all while you watch.

And there's more! The fee you pay the OWLS is for your transportation and entry fee, which covers the walk-through to see the ice sculptures, a stage production of Cirque Dreams, and the Atrium Light show. But take your credit card! For another $17 (paid when you decide) you can enjoy unlimited snow tubing on real snow! ? Tubes are furnished, slope is about 20 feet high and stairs must be climbed to top, carrying tube.

For another $10, "Santa's Snow Throw" is another option. You'll receive a small bucket of real snow balls, and shown targets (NOT YOUR FELLOW OWLS). And if you'd like to hear Mrs. Claus read holiday classics and sing Christmas carols, it will cost an additional $10.00. Included are her world-famous cookies and a glass of cold milk.
We will remain at Gaylord Palms for your Dutch-treat lunch, with quite a variety of food choices: a frozen yogurt shop, a Mediterranean buffet, two Starbucks shops, a sports bar, and of course, a steak house.

Limited to a bus load, 1st 55 TO PAY WILL GO!
